Spidi is an Italian manufacturer of protective and race clothing for motorcycle riders. Spidi Sport slr owns Spidi Incorporated, a United States-based subsidiary. The company is headquartered in Sarego, Italy and has a subsidiary office in California. The US subsidiary was incorporated in 2013.cite-ref-1[1]

Spidi was started by Italian Renato Dalla Grana in 1977,cite-ref-2[2]cite-ref-0-3-0[3]cite-ref-4[4] and initially only manufactured racing gloves for motorcycle riders.cite-ref-1-5-0[5] The company was incorporated in Italy in 1985cite-ref-6[6] and began producing motorcycle apparel in 1989.cite-ref-7[7]

Spidi has sponsored riders such as Kenny Roberts,cite-ref-8[8] Marco Melandri,cite-ref-9[9]cite-ref-10[10] Sete Giberneau,cite-ref-3-11-0[11] and Colin Edwards.cite-ref-3-11-1[11]

Spidi received the first CE for their motorcycle jacket protectors in 1996.cite-ref-12[12]cite-ref-13[13] and produced their first universal motorcycle airbag in 2010.cite-ref-14[14] An integral cooling system called the Anatomic Intercooler System (AIS) intercooler system,cite-ref-15[15] developed from astronaut's space suits,cite-ref-16[16]cite-ref-17[17] was introduced in 2004 through a technology transfer project with the European Space Agency.cite-ref-2-18-0[18]

In 1995, Nobuatsu (Noboru) Ueda fell off his bike, breaking his arm and receiving nerve damage that nearly paralyzed his right hand.cite-ref-4-19-0[19] To assist him in continuing to ride, Spidi designed a glove with a mechanised band system that allowed Ueda to grip the throttle and brake levers, which was nicknamed the "Magic Glove".cite-ref-20[20]cite-ref-4-19-1[19] In 2018, a glove based on the same technology was created for rider Jorge Martin who was suffering from neuritis of the hand after an injury caused by unexpected nerve inflammation.cite-ref-21[21]cite-ref-22[22]cite-ref-23[23]

In 2019, Spidi released a prototype jacket, called the Mission Beta, created to assist riders who travel through areas with high pollution, smoke or other particulates.cite-ref-24[24]cite-ref-25[25] Citing that commuter motorcyclists can experience particulate levels 100 time higher than car drivers,cite-ref-26[26] the jacket contains a built-in mask system which contains an air pollution sensor.cite-ref-27[27]cite-ref-28[28] When the air quality reaches a high enough level, a small screen on the arm of the jacket alerts the rider to the situation so they can put on their mask.cite-ref-29[29]cite-ref-30[30]

Spidi’s Ducati Corse C3 was the world‘s first glove to achieve a 4-star rating (the highest result at the time) in MotoCAP’s independent safety tests.cite-ref-31[31]
